PURPOSE OF THE FUND:
A separate scholarship program for those
members of the Laborers' International Union who have maintained membership
in any of the Washington State Local Unions.
The members of the Washington locals have
funded this scholarship program, beginning in 1998 Scholarships will be
awarded annually to assist eligible students in furthering their education.
The first award will be made in the Spring of 1999. Scholarships will
usually be awarded before June graduation exercises.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Those eligible are individuals who have
maintained membership in any of the following Washington Locals for
at least two (2) years: #276, #292, #791,
#901, #348, #242, #440, #1239, #238, #252, #335 and #614 and their defined
dependents. To be considered, a student must be in good standing in the
final year of high school or attending a trade program, college or university
on a full time basis.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
The exact nature and content of the scholarship
program will be determined on an annual basis by the Board of Directors.
Whereas these scholarships are for the Washington or Northern Idaho members
of the Laborers' International Union or their dependents, announcements
will be made in the District Council Web Site, as well as by all Laborers'
Local Unions throughout Washington State. The announcements will explain
the present annual program available and any specifics involved in applying.
There shall be no discrimination based
on race, color, creed, national origin, age, or gender in the selection
process or the administration of the scholarship program.
The following general scholarship criteria
will be considered in making the selections:
Academic attainments (test scores, grade
point average, class ranking)
Character
Need
Anticipated field of study
Extra curricular accomplishments
Other (as may seem applicable to the scholarship program in question)
